I feel like I could make yoyo's in my sleep. A yoyo is a circle of fabric that has been gathered all around the edges. It is super easy and fun.
Begin with a circle of fabric. Note that the flower will end up being about 1/2 the size of the circle, so cut the circle bigger than the size of flower you want. I know... you're thinking "black flower??? kinda creepy!" That's the point, it's going on a Halloween skirt.
Hand stitch all the way around the edge of the circle. I find doing this by hand actually easier than using a machine, it gathers nicer. I also use light weight crochet thread because it is super strong and won't break. Don't worry about the edges being raw. They will be hidden beneath the button.
Go all the way around.
When you come to the point where you started sewing pull on the thread and it will gather up into a yoyo.
Leave the needle and thread intact in preparation for adding the button.
Thread the button onto the needle then pull the needle through to the back side. 
Go through to the front again.
Thread the needle through the button one more time and through to the back of the yoyo.
Tie it off in a tight little knot.
Pull the yoyo away from the button and put a small amount of hot glue close to the center. It's better to put too little than too much because you don't want the glue to seep out beyond the button. If you need more you can always add it.
And there you go..... your very own yoyo flower!

Thank you for this EASY tutorial!! i have been trying to make these yo yo's all night. I was having a hard time getting the circle to roll down 1/4" and then stitch it. I tried your way and did it the first try!!
